FLIC Votes Poised to Engage Voters and Stand with Immigrants with Fewer Than 100 days to the elections
FLORIDA — With fewer than 100 days left to vote in one of the state’s most critical elections in history, FLIC Votes will remain committed to engaging and registering voters for the 2018 midterms, in addition to supporting candidates that stand with our immigrant communities. The past two years have proved to be destructive for undocumented immigrants, who have been forced to face anti-immigrant policies. From voluntary and costly voluntary complicity with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in 18 counties to ad-hoc check-ins, immigrants and people of color are being wrongfully criminalized and pursued. We must elect candidates willing to protect all people, regardless of their immigration status.
The following is a statement from Thomas Kennedy, Deputy Political Director with FLIC Votes:
FLIC Votes will support candidates that stand with our communities and who support the Second Chances campaign, which would restore the right to vote to over 1.4 million Floridians who have been disenfranchised due to prior felony convictions. We demand support for providing driver’s licenses and state IDs for immigrants regardless of status, and will fight to put an end to for-profit detention and deportation machinery.
Floridians need candidates who understand the issues they face everyday and who are willing to take bold actions to stand up for them. Florida’s primary will take place August 28, 2018 and the general election on November 6, 2018. Make your heard voice heard and VOTE!
FLIC Votes seeks to expand democracy by shaping an active and conscious electorate which reflects the diversity of Florida.
